Why converting to XHTML?

XHTML is compatible with the future users applications such as screen readers, and web browsers. This means that implementing an XHTML website, you have the guarantee that it will work across varying platforms for years to come. Your website or application will be able to take advantage of the flexibility that the XML language has to offer.

Implementing XHTML allows for the conversion to a WAP or other hand-held wireless devices, such as mobile telephones, pagers, and PDAs.

Web 2.0 Website Characteristics

To achieve all that, your website must conform to the Web Standards.

Web Standards

Web standards campaign for standards that reduce the cost and complexity of development while increasing the accessibility and long-term viability of any site published on the web.

Usually, when a web site or web page is described as standards compliant, it means the site or page has HTML that is semantic and valid or nearly valid, along with valid or nearly valid CSS.

Most characteristics of the web standards are about a streamlined and well structured code, other wise referred to as 'semantic'.
